I haven’t been on-line since the wee hours of Christmas eve morning. I’ve been a little busy. I’m tired. I may be back later this evening with more pics or maybe not ‘till tomorrow. Either way, …know that I MISS YOU.

Snow Storm 2009
Wednesday, December 23rd 2009. 8:00am. We are watching the weather. Our terrific weather crew is confused by the approaching storm. They never get confused. They can’t decide if we (Oklahoma City) will get any snow at all, or possibly 4 to 6 inches. By noon, they have decided we will have snow for Christmas. They’re just not sure how much. Around 3:00pm Wed. the wind starts to pick up and the temperatures start to go down. By 6:00pm, the warnings begin. Depending on how far south the storm out west dives, will determine how bad it will get here. ( I think it dove). Around 8:45pm The weatherman breaks into programming for “Official Warnings” a tornado in the southern part of the state. Expect thunderstorms, rain & snow mix turning to snow by 6:00am Christmas Eve morning. And should total 4 – 6 inches. ( guess again ) . I went to The National Weather Service link and checked for their maps and warnings.. Took a picture & posted it. Not worried about anything yet. Just some rain and snow.
A Happy Christmas Eve True Story.
The misty rain started around 4:00am Christmas Eve morning. By 6:00am it turned to wind driven mist and sleet. By 6:30am it was wind driven crushed ice that stings when it hits your skin. The wind is howling. Ice is building up on the roads. Somewhere around 9 or 10am the fine snow mist begins. By the noon weather, the Weathermen are telling everyone to go home and stay home. Its going to get bad.! Its snowing alot now. and blowing so hard its difficult to see.. The wind freezes your eyes. (must wear eye protection). I go out side to video an hours accumulation and the sound of the wind
.
Within an hour everything starts to fall apart EXCEPT the storm. I’ve watched it shut down one stretch of highway after another. 3:00pm EVERYthing in town is closing. Cars are abandoned on every road. ALL police agencies are saying “Go Home and stay home.. The storm has produced a curl and eased up for half an hour like the eye of a hurricane.(we take the dogs out) 9 more hours are predicted. By 6:00pm They are requesting people stay “where ever” they are ! Don’t go out in this !. Don’t travel unless you HAVE to!!!
This is when my daughter’s husband starts to scrape the 1 ½ inch of ice plus 3+ inches of snow off the car. He is a “have to”, he wears a badge. He works in security. (be nice, he’s a good one). They work when everyone else doesn’t. and he NEVER calls in.
Now it gets fun… NOT!!!
He left the house at 7:15pm. To drive 5 miles and replace an officer. At 8:47pm He is only 1/3rd of the way there, he calls home to let us know he is returning home. They other officer is hopelessly snowed in at the post . They decide to switch shifts. 9:35pm , he calls, he is a mile from home, stuck in a drift. Been trying to dig out by hand for half an hour (with a bad heart) . I convince him to stay in car and let me find help. There is no help. EVERYTHING is shut down.
20+ minutes later I have called everyone we know and every possible number. Nothing. I’m on the phone with a friend “brain storming” when I notice my daughter at the front door with her coat on sliding her ID into her sock and zipping her boot. I pulled the phone away from my face as She said “ I’ve got my cell phone, I’m taking the shovel and going to get him”. She was out the door before I could stand up.
I kid you not.!!! I hung up and called him to let him know to watch for her. He freaks out ( I’ll spare you that conversation) I can only beg him to get the navy blue blanket out of the trunk if he is going to walk. He is on foot heading for her now. . This is when I loose it and start crying. At this point I called the police so they would know to look for the bodies. (that IS what I was thinking) .
The officer wants to know if she is an adult? Yes!
Is she dressed appropriately? It’s a blizzard…. in Okla…. define appropriate., Yes, As warm as we got!
This one killed me. Is she of sound mind?
No sane person goes out in this !
Well, I could easily drag this out a few more paragraphs., This is edited. He was further away than he said. On a different road than he said. . A police officer stops her to verify it was her and drives on leaving her walking. A large man in a light blanket is walking towards her. She thinks its him. (light is not navy blue). I’ve got a phone to each ear. Her cell to my cell and his cell to the house. (too much techno for me) It was him. He got the other blanket. The pink one. (that made me laugh Mr Macho in a pink blanket in a blizzard – THAT I wish I had a picture of.!!!). 11:35pm they came in the front door. Thank you Jesus !!!!!
THAT is a Merry Christmas. The lack of extra money and small gifts this year suddenly didn’t matter. We knew we were going to have the best Christmas.
Among all the tragedy in this city that night…. there was triumph. and True Love.
Christmas morning a neighbor helped us retrieve the car. He had to work Christmas day. So we are celebrating today, Saturday. My Granddaughter doesn’t know the difference. It works!
I hope each of you had a Great Christmas.
We had and are having THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER.!.
Big Hugs to all.!

Picture 365 / 365.365

A year ago I started the Flickr 365 project. The premise is simple. Take and post a photo at least once a day. There are variations on the theme, but the main idea to get people who like photography, in the habit of taking photos.
I’m not going to lie, I fudged a little here and there. Maybe I was unavailable to post a photo, so it had to wait til the next day. Sometimes I used my cell phone. I’m just glad I made it a year.
I feel that I did learn a few things. This may sound vain, but I don’t intend it that way. I was never really comfortable in my own skin. Nothing like hearing compliments on your photography to cure that. No matter how serious or jokey they are. I learned that while I love to smile, I can do a serious look very well. Always a good self esteem booster when feeling down.
I noticed that I love to cook even more. I truly enjoyed when I could take a photo of a dish I’d prepared and pair it with the recipe. That is great fun for me! I need to do MORE of that.
I think my photography hit a few bumps. I don’t claim to be any kind of Ansel Adams. I just liked to take photos of things that caught me eye. The only problem was that before doing this project I didn’t take my camera with me wherever I went. Granted I used my cell phone camera quite a bit, but you get the idea.
I also noticed that I took a few more pics that necessary. I might go back and pair it down to a few true 365s. But for now you get a few bonus extras.
I had 28 pics with Mark in them.
I had 57 pics that had something to do with food.
I had 32 pics that were taken with my camera phone.
I don’t intend to stop taking photos. Completing this project was a big deal. I’m glad I did it. I’ll have to see what other challenges await!
